GATX to roll out telematics software
The leasing company is installing ZTR’s remote monitoring solution on its North American railcar fleet. The system will collect, monitor, and distribute data through the ZTR platform as well as the Rail Pulse platform from GPS gateways and wireless sensors mounted on railcars.
Besides the location, the system will also track trip progress, impact detection, load/unload status, hand brake position and the open/close status of doors, hatches as well as gates.
According to ZTR, railroads and shippers will benefit from reduced turnaround times and instant identification of delayed or misrouted railcars. This will cut operating costs and improve fleet utilisation. (ben)
