GAC supports Special Olympics
GAC Abu Dhabi played a vital role in the success of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi in 2019. The capital of the Emirates welcomed more than 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches from 195 nations – all of whom needed equipment and infrastructure from around the world.
GAC Abu Dhabi helped ensure that everything was where it should be, when it was needed. The logistics hub for the games was based at Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi, conveniently close to GAC Abu Dhabi’s newly opened warehouse.
Clear communications between sites guaranteed smooth operations throughout the games. The GAC team handled about 4,900 cbm of cargo arriving at Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports, with its fleet of trucks and trailers making 200 delivery trips. After the games, 3,700 cbm of cargo were returned. GAC also provided supporting services including specialised packing and crating, inventory management, stock replenishment and on-site support for venue coordinators. (mw)
