Further China–Laos rail service inaugurated
A freight train loaded with fruit and rubber from Southeast Asia was ceremonially dispatched from Kunming (Yunnan province, China) on Sunday, 8 October. It will arrive in Shanghai after a journey of around 82 hours. It links the China-Laos Railway and the Shanghai-Kunming Railway and connects the Laotian capital of Vientiane and Shanghai, eastern China.
According to the Chinese government it will be operated both ways. Since the start of the operation in December 2021, trains using these lines have delivered some 27 million t of cargo to destinations including Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar. Up to 25 provincial areas in China offer cross-border freight train services. (ben)
