Funds to extend Liège port

The government of the Belgian region of Wallonia has granted the autonomous inland port of Liège subsidies of almost EUR 4 million.

The funds have been earmarked to extend the port area along the river Meuse towards Hermalle-sous-Huy by building a new 250 m quay wall and access road; and to renovate a metal rail bridge over the Meuse / Albert Canal junction, which will ensure existing rail connections to and from the Liège Trilogiport.

Work is due to begin in spring and to be completed around the end of 2021. The project also allows for the collection and treatment of runoff water.

Port director general Emile-Louis Bertrand thanked the Walloon government’s infrastructure minister, Philippe Henry, for his initiative, adding that “this excellent news will enable us to significantly strengthen our waterway infrastructure."
