Funding to reduce air pollution in US ports

The US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has opened applications for the first round of a programme that focuses on port electrification and efficiency improvements.

The FY 2022-2023 funding includes a USD 160 million grant for the reduction of truck emissions at port facilities. Port-related trade has grown in recent years and thus increased the number of trucks waiting to offload their goods.

Port facilities, port workers, and surrounding neighbourhoods often experience poor air quality due to significant truck congestion and idling both inside and outside the port facility. (ben)
