Fully automated shunting locomotive under trial
A fully automated shunting locomotive is currently being tested in the deep-water container port Jade Weser Port Wilhelmshaven in Germany. The German federal ministry for transport and digital infrastructure has provided a EUR 2.35 million subsidy for the shunting terminal 4.0 project.
Container trains are normally moved into and within the terminals by means of a catenary-free shunting locomotive, which means that the traction units have to be rewired every time, requiring additional logistics operations and increasing material costs.
To optimise this time-critical manoeuvring procedure, the hub is now testing the new shunting locomotive that was built in the Reuschling locomotive plant in Westphalia. (ben)
