Fuel-saving was the decisive factor
The Australian instant lawn supplier Lilydale has ordered two new Scania 500 G Super trucks, after having trialled the vehicle on its Bairnsdale B-double route. The tests showed that the new model saved 50 litres of fuel compared to the older non-Scania truck.
The new Super 500 G was also trialled against an existing Scania G 540 run by the company, and again the Super engine proved to be more frugal, despite the 40 hp deficit.
According to Lilydale, the new 500 G truck would provide a fuel saving equal to around AUD 500 (EUR 300) per week on the trialled route. The truck runs out to Bairnsdale unloaded but comes back with a 34 t payload. The deliveries of the two ordered vehicles will be completed in 2024. (ben)
