From two railroads to five in one stroke
Gulf & Atlantic Railways (G&AR) has signed an agreement to acquire three midwestern short line railroads from Midwest & Bluegrass Rail. Camp Chase Railroad, Chesapeake & Indiana Railroad and Vermilion Valley Railroad are located in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, respectively, and interchange with US class I railroads like Norfolk Southern and CSX.
G&AR, headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, already owns and operates the regional railroad Florida, Gulf & Atlantic and short line Grenada Railway. The take-over of the three midwestern short line railroads will expand G&AR’s existing portfolio from two railroads to five, the US rail operator said. (ben)
