From California via Cologne to the Netherlands
Cologne customs recently foiled attempts to smuggle of 218 kg of marijuana in packages through Cologne / Bonn airport. For tactical reasons, the major seizures from two nights at the end of January and beginning of March 2024 are only being revealed now.
"Our four-legged colleagues regularly find drugs in parcels from all over the world, but we've never had 130 kg of marijuana and, a few weeks later, another 88 kg of marijuana in a single freight shipment. The drugs were on their way from California to the Netherlands and have a street value of almost EUR 5.5 million," said Jens Ahland, press spokesman for the main customs office in Cologne.
Instead of the supposed chargers and computer accessories, the boxes contained hundreds of vacuum bags and plastic tins of marijuana. The customs investigation office in Essen has now taken charge and is pursuing the case. (cj)
