From Alaska to the Spanish Isles
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) recently sold ferry vessels to Spain. In mid-March, the AMHS vessels the “Fairweather” and the “Chenega” were acquired by Servicios y Concesiones Maritimas Ibicencas of Ibiza (Spain).The sale price for the “Chenega” was USD 3.2 million, while the “Fairweather” cost USD 2 million. AMHS will transfer the proceeds into its vessel construction fund, an account used for future AMHS vessel maintenance and construction.The Ibiza-based Spanish company, which was the sole bidder at the auction of the two vessels, plans to transport the ships to Spain in the coming weeks.DOT&PF oversees 237 airports, ten ferries serving 35 communities, over 9,000 km of highway and 776 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska.
