From 1 to 6 million containers
APM Terminals Moín (TCM) in Costa Rica has handled over 6 million containers since its inception in 2018, with container volumes rising from 1 million teu in 2019 to 1.26 million teu in 2023. Primarily focused on exporting products like bananas and coffee, the terminal has seen a significant increase in vessel calls, from 12 per month in 2018 to over 89 in 2023.
In a press release, general manager José Rueda referred to the terminal's growth and commitment to innovation and efficiency.
Up-to-date technologies such as automated gates with optical character recognition (OCR) and an appointment system have been installed in the terminal. Yard efficiency is boosted by process automation on rubber tyred gantry cranes (RTG's) and the optimisation of the N4 terminal operating system. These upgrades have reduced vessel port stays by 30%.
