FreightCar America railcar orders surge
FreightCar America, a manufacturer of freight railcars, has announced new orders for 1,250 railcars valued at approximately USD 141 million during Q1 2025. The orders, including gondolas, open-top hoppers and covered hoppers, represent around 25% of all new railcars ordered and 36% of the company's addressable market for the quarter, "marking the largest new railcar market share quarter intake in 15 years", as the company stated.
CEO Nick Randall highlighted manufacturing agility as a factor behind the market share gains. FreightCar America confirmed that its railcars comply with USMCA regulations and are not subject to new tariffs based on the current understanding of the company. (js)
