Freight transport soon with maglevs?

Tests conducted by Nevomo have proven that magnetic levitation trains can operate without friction on existing railway infrastructure.

During trials on a more than 720 m long test track in Poland, the Mag Rail units reached a speed of 135 km/h and demonstrated stable hovering and magnetic guidance on the rail infrastructure. The 6 m long, 2 t railcar began hovering at just over 70 km/h and made it from 0 to 100 km/h in 11 seconds.

Nevomo plans to launch the first Mag Rail version for freight transport in 2024. Potential applications for Mag Rail are currently being defined with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, SNCF, Duisport and GATX. (ben)
