Freight forwarders prepare for ICS2 compliance

Clecat and Fiata have released a guidance note for freight forwarders on the EU’s import control system 2 (ICS2) release 3, which affects the maritime sector.

With the compliance window from 4 December 2024 to 1 April 2025 fast approaching, the guidance highlights the importance of early preparation for house-level filing and recommends that freight forwarders independently manage their filings rather than relying on ocean carriers.

Forwarders must request a deployment window from their national customs authorities by 1 November 2024 to meet the deadlines. The document advises freight forwarders to establish formal agreements, ensure technical readiness, and coordinate internally to manage these regulatory changes and safeguard business operations under ICS2 release 3.
