Four UK railways win contracts
Tarmac has renewed a number of five-year railfreight contracts with four railways in the UK. Tarmac, one of the biggest users of the UK’s railfreight network, with more than 60 rail-connected sites, transports around 9 million t of construction materials by rail every year.
The four companies that will deliver railfreight services at Tarmac’s hubs and supply routes over the coming years are Colas Rail UK (contract for the Dunbar cement works in East Lothian); GB Rail Freight (aggregates from the Swinden, Thrislington and Dry Rigg/Arcow quarries); Freightliner (contract for the Tunstead site in Derbyshire and for West Country quarries); and DB Cargo (contracts for Mountsorrel quarry in Leicestershire, and for Tarmac’s aggregates business in Greenwich).
