Fossil-free last mile transport
The Swedish Port of Gothenburg is linking the Swedish freight hubs Eskilstuna, Hallsberg and Jönköping with the continent with 19 departures each week. The freight carried on the shuttles is conveyed by truck between the terminals and local warehouses and logistics centres.
Since 5 November 2021, these transports have been fossil-free. The trucks used to transfer the freight between rail wagon and road truck at the combi-terminals also run on HVO100, resulting in a further reduction in emissions.
The use of rail on the routes to and from Gothenburg, in combination with GDL’s fossil-free distribution, saves around 18,000 t of carbon dioxide annually, compared with road haulage powered by conventional diesel fuel, Gothenburg’s port authority said. (ben)
