Former port president dies of Covid-19
Joaquim Tosas i Mir, the former president of the Port of Barcelona, has died after contracting Covid-19 at the age of 74. Tosas i Mir ran the Port of Barcelona between 1996 and 2004. During these years he oversaw big development projects and introduced telematics solutions. He is also remembered for his ability to form close relationships between the port and the city of Barcelona.
Mercè Conesa, the current president of the Port of Barcelona, says that she greatly valued Tosas i Mir both as a professional colleague and a friend: "He was always full of energy and had clear ideas. When I took over the presidency of the port, I had the opportunity to have a long talk with him. It was he who made our port into the state-of-the art and customer-oriented gateway we have today."
