Forest product export optimised in Gothenburg

The Port of Gothenburg has implemented an innovative transshipment solution in collaboration with Södra, a Swedish forest industry group. This solution will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, optimising the export process for Sweden's forest products.

Traditionally, Södra's pulp was transported by rail and truck from Mönsterås on the east coast to Mima Terminals in the Port of Gothenburg for global shipment. Now, a new logistics setup, developed by Södra, Mima Terminal, and APM Terminals, provides a more eco-friendly corridor for transporting pulp by sea.

This shift aims to handle increased volumes and reduce emissions while maintaining efficiency and economic viability. Bulk carriers now transport large quantities of pulp from Mönsterås to the Port of Gothenburg, where Mima Terminal processes and containerises the pulp for global distribution. (pb)
