Following the call of Norway's north
Virgin Atlantic Cargo is extending its cargo-only network to Evenes airport (EVE), serving Harstad and Narvik in the north of Norway, which is now connected for the first time in the airline's history with London Heathrow.
The first flight is departing today, 3 February 2021, and Virgin Atlantic is set to offer twice weekly flights on its B787-9 (100+ t of weekly capacity).
For exports to the USA, the aircraft will allow fresh salmon, cod and crabs to reach their destination up to 72 hours faster than current solutions through Oslo.
Flying a wide body aircraft into EVE posed challenges for the airline's team, which they overcame to ensure the route was operationally viable. Working closely with Kuehne + Nagel counterparts, the teams took part in online training and also operated a test flight. (ah)
