First train departs new KSW terminal
A thrice weekly direct rail service is now available between the new Kreisbahn Siegen-Wittgenstein (KSW) terminal in Kreuztal (Germany) and Verona in northern Italy. The transit time is a mere 38 hours. The first train departed from Kreuztal last Tuesday night (6 – 7 May).
The intermodal service provider Kombiverkehr partners KSW in operating the container terminal that opened in 2018. The new offer boosts Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr’s rail services to/from Italy via the Brenner to 148 departures per week.
The KSW container terminal is the only facility at the southern end of the Rhine/Ruhr region that can be accessed by trains hauling P400 load units without having to use the Rhine corridor. (ben)
