First timber train leaves Archangel for China
The first container train to China recently departed from Arkhangelsk Station in Russia with Northern Railways carrying sawn timber in 62 large-capacity containers.
After a journey of ten days, the train arrived at the Russian Zabaikalsk border station at the Chinese frontier on 15 April. Here the containers were transhipped and loaded onto Chinese rolling stock for delivery to Fushan station.
According to Russian Railways (RZD), the shipper Forest Plant 25 plans to send four container trains every month by the same route after the maiden run. Dispatching consignments by container trains is attractive because it ensures the security of the cargo throughout the journey, offers fast delivery times and automated loading and unloading systems, said RZD.
