First new widebody jet for Iraqi Airways

Now it has taken a few more weeks. After it seemed in April that the first B787 Dreamliner for Iraqi Airways was ready for collection (see ITJ 17-18/2023, p. 12), the transfer of the aircraft from Charleston to Baghdad finally took place only last week.

The Iraqi flag carrier has taken the first of ten 787s on order, to grow its long-haul network and connect Iraq to more international destinations.

The delivery of Iraqi Airways’ first 787 follows delivery of four Boeing 737 MAX airplanes since February. The airline has ordered a total of six 737-8s and ten 737-10s.

Iraqi Airways currently serves over 50 destinations from Baghdad and is expanding and renewing its fleet to support the anticipated increase in international travel to and from the country. (ah)
