First megaship docks in Algeciras
It was a first-timer in type and size. The 20,000-teu “ULCV Taurus” from Cosco Shipping recently called at the Total Terminal International Algeciras for the first time, the largest company containership to dock at the Spanish terminal so far. The ship is deployed on the AEU3 service that links Asia and Northern Europe.
TTI Algeciras is currently building up its capabilities to further handle these mega-ships. The terminal has now installed five of its eight super postpanamax cranes to Malaccamax, a project to be completed by the end of 2022.
The fourth ship-to-shore crane will arrive in September 2022. It will increase its height from 43 to 52 m and thus be able to operate up to 12 deck heights. In 2020, HMM sold its 50% stake minus one share in TTI Algeciras to CMA CGM. (sh)
