First leased and operated, then finally owned
US short line railroad Buckingham Branch Railroad (BBRR) is acquiring a 264 km long line in Virginia, USA, from milepost 276 in Clifton Forge to milepost 111.78 at Doswell, according to the US surface transportation board. BBRR has been leasing and operating the stretch from CSX since 2005.
The railway was established in 1988 to acquire a 27 km line from CSX between Bremo and Dillwyn, Va. Today it operates 450 route km, providing a total of eight interchanges with the Class 1 railroads CSX and Norfolk Southern.
It also offers, inter alia, direct railfreight services and transload freight services combining long distance rail delivery with the first or last few miles by truck to or from its industrial facility. (ben)
