First heavy-duty e-truck to run in Manitoba
Multi-service haulier Gardewine, a subsidiary of Mullen Group, is adding a new electric shunt truck to its fleet. The vehicles are expected to arrive by December 2021, and the first electric parcel vans are expected to arrive by Q1/2022.
The new e-trucks will be deployed to reposition trailers at Gardewine’s Winnipeg terminal in the Canadian province Manitoba. The units are charged by a cable management system and run up to 20 hours a day, five days a week.
Gardewine is one of the first Canadian transport companies to purchase electric vehicles of this calibre. In 2019/2020, the haulier replaced 14 propane-powered forklifts with electric forklifts, resulting in an annual reduction of 220 t CO2. (ben)
