First cargo investments at JFK in two decades

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (Panynj), which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, has signed a long-term ground lease agreement with Aeroterm for the development of a USD 145 million, 32,500 sqm cargo facility.

The first new cargo facility built at JFK since the 1990's represents a step forward in the "JFK Vision Plan" outlined by governor Andrew Cuomo and is part of a strategy to bring 21st-century standards to cargo operations at all of Panynj's commercial airports (JFK, EWR, LGA, SWF and TEB).

After the demolition of two obsolete facilities, starting in September, the expanded cargo facility, operated by WFS, will incorporate advanced technology systems and a temperature-controlled area. It will include greater ramp capacity to handle three large freighters simultaneously and over 50 dock doors. (ah)
