First batch of Chinese locomotives arrives in Africa
The Chinese manufacturer CRRC Qishuyan recently delivered the first batch of ten locomotives to Nigeria. The diesel locomotives will run along the Abuja-Kaduna railway and the Lagos-Ibadan route.
The Abuja-Kaduna line was opened in 2016 and the Lagos-Ibadan railway is currently still under construction. The two lines play an important role in stimulating local economic development and are projects of the Chinese "Belt and Road" initiative, according to CRRC.
At the beginning of this year a contract was signed to deliver 21 Chinese diesel locomotives to Nigeria, where the conditions for transport services are constantly improving. (ben)
