First 1,200 HP loco for Congo-Ocean Railways
The Belgium mechanical engineering group John Cockerill has delivered the first of four shunting locomotives to Congo-Ocean Railways (CFCO) in Pointe-Noire (Republic of Congo). The vehicles were designed and manufactured in John Cockerill’s factory in Seraing (Belgium).
This delivery is the culmination of a larger contract covering the production of an integrated and coherent set of rail equipment for Congo’s state-owned railway company. The 1,200 HP locomotives are equipped with a diesel electric AC/AC transmission and have a maximum speed of 90 km/h. They will run for almost 510 km between the port of Pointe Noire on the Atlantic coast and Brazzaville, transporting mainly food products and passengers over short distances. (ben)
