Fire risk in port equipment – TT Club urges action
Insurance provider TT Club warns that fire remains a leading cause of damage to port and terminal equipment, accounting for 19% of nearly 1,600 fire-related claims over the past decade. Beyond financial losses and operational disruptions, fires pose a major safety risk to workers, visitors and the public.
TT Club supports Pema’s recent white paper on fire detection and suppression, which emphasises regular maintenance, risk assessments and compliance with safety regulations. “Collaboration between equipment manufacturers, fire suppression suppliers and port operators are key to reducing this persistent risk,” said Neil Dalus of TT’s loss prevention department.
TT Club urges the industry to adopt state-of-the-art fire suppression systems and remote monitoring for autonomous equipment to enhance safety and resilience. (ah)
