Finnlines sails in green waters - and earns
The Finnlines Group boosted its 2018 profit by 13.1% or EUR 12.5 million, lifting it to EUR 95.1 million. Revenue increased to EUR 589.4 million, 9.9% more than in 2017. Cargo volumes remained strong in Q4/2018.
The shipping company continues to adhere to its EUR 200 million green ro-ro fleet investment programme that was initiated in April 2018, by ordering three new green 5,800 lane metre ro-ro vessels. Moreover, a new ro-pax class concept is currently being developed for Finnlines.
19 of the carrier’s 21 vessels were fitted with emission reduction systems several years ago, and reducing fuel consumption is another goal. While referring to emission reductions, Emanuele Grimaldi, Finnlines’ president and CEO, said: "We invested over EUR 1 billion over the past decade." (kd)
