Finnair to suffer from closure of Russian airspace

More than half of the route from Helsinki to Singapore passes through Russia, and between Helsinki and Tokyo (photo) the Russian share of the route is even around three quarters.

Due to significant negative financial impacts of a prolonged closure of the Russian airspace, Finnair is withdrawing its guidance related to Q1/2022 and the operational environment in H2/2022, provided in connection with the Q4/2021 result.

CEO Topi Manner: "We understand the EU’s decision to close its airspace. We are implementing our contingency plan as the situation has a considerable impact on Finnair. Bypassing the Russian airspace lengthens flight times to Asia considerably and thus the operation of most our passenger and cargo flights to Asia is no longer economically sustainable or competitive."
