Finnair grows cargo business by almost 10%
Finnair experienced strong demand in 2019: cargo performance in early December was still overshadowed by the Finnish postal and support strikes in late November, but available scheduled cargo tonne kilometres increased by 10.9% yoy and revenue scheduled cargo tonne kilometres increased by 0.8%.
Overall global uncertainty in world trade continues to have a negative impact on the global air freight market and was especially visible in the airline's cargo markets in Asia, where monthly volumes retracted by 3.1%.
For the whole year, however, this market grew by 6.5% t (124,000 t). Finnair's other international freight markets performed even better: Europe increased by 53.7% (35,000 t) and North America by 30.1% (13,600 t). In total, Finnair flew 173,000 t (+15.3%) and increased revenue cargo tonne kilometres by 10.6% (1.1 billion km). (ah)
