Finland: e-loco to pull over 2,000 t trains
Siemens recently delivered a Vectron electric locomotive to Fenniarail in Finland. It is the first e-locomotive to be acquired by a private railway company in this country.
The locomotive has been designed for Finnish conditions and is particularly suitable as a freight train – one Vectron can pull an over 2,000 t train with a higher average speed than diesel locomotives.
The Vectron is also equipped with a “last mile” system for operating on non-electrified tracks. It arrived at the port of Hanko on Sunday, 17 September 2023 and will now be transferred to the Kouvola area for final preparations. It is scheduled to enter commercial service in November 2023. (ben)
