Financial injection for Poland’s rail infrastructure
The European Commission has adopted two major cohesion policy projects to improve the Polish rail network. Both projects should be operational as of January 2023.
Almost EUR 838 million will be invested to upgrade a 214.5-km section of rail connections between Śląskie and Łódzkie, which is part of the Trans-European transport network. This EU investment will reduce travel time for cargo traffic by 37 minutes and by almost half an hour for interregional passenger traffic.
The second project includes a EUR 43 million fund from the EU which will help to purchase more than 930 platform wagons for transporting containers by rail. (ben)
