Final phase for Bremerhaven quay
The final phase of construction for the new Columbuskaje in Bremerhaven has officially commenced, led by Mayor Melf Grantz, Bremenports CEO Robert Howe, and Jens Diekmann of Tagubau. This third and last section will complete the 800 m long quay, with 600 m already finished.
The remaining 217 m will involve driving a new sheet pile wall into the river Weser, separated by 20 m from the old quay, and anchoring it with steel and concrete. Upon completion, the gap to the old harbour edge will be filled with sand and topped by paving stones for a unified quay appearance.
The project, funded by Bremen’s senate (government) with around EUR 80 million, is expected to finish by the end of October 2024. It will also include the installation of shore power facilities by 2025 to provide clean electricity to ships during their stay, marking a step towards sustainable cruising and climate protection.
