Fifth MSC service in Halifax

Port of Halifax welcomed the 300 m long vessel "MSC Elma" for the first time on 11 June 2023. With the 9,408 teu vessel, the port – which describes itself as "Canada’s Ultra Atlantic Gateway" - now counts five MSC services.

The "Ecuador to NWC Service" rotation includes stops at Antwerp, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Halifax, Boston, Freeport, Balboa, Guayaquil, Puerto Bolivar, Guayaquil, Paita, Cristobal, Moin and Antwerp.

Captain Allan Gray, president and CEO, Halifax Port Authority: "This new service provides greater connectivity between Europe and Latin America for Nova Scotia importers and exporters looking to connect with these markets."

The service calls at PSA Halifax Atlantic Hub terminal, which features the longest and deepest berth of any port in Eastern Canada, with a continuous quay length of 800 m at a depth of 16.5 ms. It comprises an area of 320,000 sqm and has five super post-Panamax (SPPX) cranes. Two additional SPPX cranes and new yard handling equipment will arrive later this year. (lh)
