Fewer trains hauling more timber

The Swedish forest company Holmen has taken a new step in its sustainable strategy. Holmen is located in northern Sweden, but much of its industrial production takes place in the south. To ensure supplies of timber, the company has decided to haul its wood on Green Cargo trains from the north to its sites in the south.

Holmen already has worked with the Swedish national carrier in the pulpwood and sawn log transport field between locations in northern Sweden for many years. This collaboration has now been expanded to include destinations in southern Sweden, and a new transport solution with more trains and a new wagon type. Use of the latter means that it is now possible to transport more wood on fewer trains to more places. (ben)
