Ferries to get electronic logbooks

Two newbuild "superstar-class" ro-pax vessels of Finnlines’ fleet, which operates cargo and passenger vessels in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, will be equipped with electronic reporting, fleet monitoring and stability management solutions developed by Napa, a global maritime software and data services expert.

The agreement between the companies covers electronic logbooks, which will automate and streamline mandatory reporting and record-keeping required by the flag state and the IMO’s Marpol and Solas conventions.

The "Finnsirius" and "Finncanopus", each with a capacity of 1,100 passengers and 5,200 lane metres of cargo, will be operating between Finland and Sweden. Cloud-based fleet intelligence modules will reduce the administrative work for crews.

Esa Henttinen, Napa's EVP for safety solutions: "Beyond mandatory reporting, this data can be integrated and analysed to deliver insights that will inform actions to deliver more efficient and sustainable operations." (lh)
