Fedro relaxes rules
Special designs to improve aerodynamics and thus reduce CO2 emissions can affect the length of the vehicles concerned. This puts heavy commercial vehicles in particular at a disadvantage compared with conventionally built trucks.
In Switzerland, the federal roads office (Fedro) has issued a temporary directive to allow domestic and cross-border traffic of articulated trucks whose tractor units already have longer, aerodynamic driver's cabs.
The directive is valid until the end of October 2022 and thus bridges the gap until the relevant ordinances of the road traffic law are amended. According to Fedro, the revised ordinances are expected to come into effect in Q2/2022. (ben)
