Faster connections to Greece and Turkey
ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has set up a new subsidiary in Belgrade, thus adding Serbia as the 13th country to its network of sustainable railfreight services relying on its own staff and locomotives. Rail Cargo Carrier – Southeast will focus on transit services between Turkey and Central and South-Eastern Europe.
The connection with Turkey has huge potential for sustainable, climate-friendly railfreight transport, the carrier said. Currently, Turkish foreign trade is still heavily dependent on road haulage, with rail accounting for only about 1% of Turkey's exports. By establishing the company in Serbia, RCG aims to make railfreight more attractive for local businesses. (ben)
