Fast diversification
On 28 September AFG Aviation Ireland, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aircraft Finance Germany, completed the acquisition of a Boeing 757-200 freighter aircraft and a Rolls-Royce RB211 engine from a subsidiary of ASL Aviation Holdings for its customer Airline Geo Sky.
Two days later, the Georgian cargo airline founded five years ago transferred its first freighter of this type, which can fill its 222 cbm maindeck with up to 28.7 t of heavy cargo, from Budapest to Tbilisi. The aircraft had taken off for Air Seychelles in 1993 and began a new life as a conversion freighter ten years ago.
To date, Geo Sky operates two B747-200Fs (600 cbm, 105 t), making it one of the last civilian operators of this "jumbo" sub-type, which has a longer range than the original version. (ah)
