FAA certifications for AEI and Vietnam
Aeronautical Engineers (AEI) has received an FAA Supplemental Type Certificate for the passenger-to-freighter conversion of B737-800 aircraft. The prototype conversion was completed in December, but the certification was delayed because of the partial government shutdown. The AEI converted B737-800SF freighter offers a main deck payload of up to 23.9 t.
The FAA also announced that Vietnam complies with international safety standards. The country has been granted a Category 1 rating under the agency’s international aviation safety assessment programme.
This means that Vietnam’s civil aviation authority meets Icao standards for personnel licensing, operations, and airworthiness. Vietnamese air carriers that are able to secure the requisite authority can now establish services to the USA. (ah)
