Express service provider relies on Swiss railways
DPD Switzerland and SBB Cargo have completed a four-week trial period for the transport of tires and empty swap bodies. The pilot was so successful that DPD wants to shift cargo regularly from the roads to the railways as from autumn 2019.
As from 2020, the company also intends to carry more parcels by rail. Currently, the management of the parcel service provider is assessing all scheduled services to see which of them can be transferred to the railways.
“We believe that we can shift around ten trucks per night from the roads to the railways,” DPD Switzerland says. DPD wants to reduce the emissions per parcel by 30% by 2025. (ben)
