Expensive Russian Freighter
After the Tu-154, the last of this type of trijet in operation, the east Siberian airline Alrosa has withdrawn another iconic Russian-made aircraft from service. This time it was the freighter IL-76TD. The company told the national media that the withdrawal was due to the relatively high operational and maintenance costs for this model.
Of the three leased aircraft, at the end only RA-76360 was still in operation. It is now being prepared for the transfer to another unspecified operator. RA-76373 and RA-76420 have been in long-time storage since 2018 and are no longer registered as Alrosa aircraft. (ah)
