Expanding waste reduction efforts
American Airlines Cargo has nearly doubled its annual long-term plastic-waste reduction through its partnership with BioNatur Plastics.
In 2024, the airline replaced over 124 t of traditional plastic, cutting plastic waste by the equivalent of 12.6 million water bottles. Since 2022, American has integrated BioNatur’s biodegradable and recyclable plastics into cargo operations at most US hubs and in Latin America, with further expansion planned.
The products, distributed by M&G Packaging, include pallet covers, stretch wrap and sheeting used in ULDs.
Greg Schwendinger, president of American Airlines Cargo, highlighted the impact of sustainable practices, while BioNatur Plastics president Chris Paladino praised the airline’s leadership in sustainability. Both enterprises aim to further decrease their environmental impact in 2025. (ah)
