Expanding rail to truck transload facilities
In USA, Iowa Interstate Railroad (Iais) has purchased Iowa City’s Industrial Campus plot to develop a new rail to truck transloading facility. The site, including an existing rail spur, connects to the 920 km Iais network, providing shippers with direct access to all seven Class-I Railroads and numerous short line railroads.
According to the US EPA Smart Way programme, moving freight by rail versus truck lowers greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75%.
Founded in 1984, Iais is a Class-II regional railroad operating in the Midwest region between Chicago, Peoria, and the Omaha areas. It is one of the only regional railroads in USA with direct connections to all seven Class-I railroads. (ben)
