"Evaporated" cognac, rerouted honeybees
In the US District Court in Pasadena, American Airlines is being sued by Bacardi USA over the mysterious disappearance of six of 24 pallets containing 1,680 cases of cognac flown on 20 September 2021 from Paris to Los Angeles. According to Bacardi, the missing alcohol was worth up to USD 65,820.
The company adds that although it was never made clear if the missing cases were lost or stolen, American Airlines has thus far paid "no part" of the bill.
In other news, Delta rerouted 350 kg of Californian honeybees destined for Anchorage but arriving in Atlanta. Metro Atlanta Beekeepers Association (MABA) rushed to the airport where they realised that about 25% of the 5 million bees had already died of heat and starvation.
The client is considering claiming a reimbursement for the USD 48,000 loss and, to avoid future mishaps, flying to Seattle, then driving to Sacramento with some vans to pick up the replacements. (ah)
