Europe invests in links to Central Asia

Kazakhstan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have joined forces to develop the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). They will work to increase freight traffic between Central Asia and Europe through Kazakhstan.

As part of the cooperation, EBRD is investing EUR 1.5 billion in Trans-Caspian Corridor-related infrastructure and associated transport solutions over the next two-three years.

Some of the priority projects will include the modernisation of container handling equipment and the building of a container terminal at the Aktau Port, double tracking and the electrification of the national railway network, as well as the construction and rehabilitation of key roads. (ben)
