EUR 100 million for rail technology upgrade
Technology specialist Kontron has won railway contracts in Europe worth more than EUR 100 million. In Ireland and Austria, the contracts will ensure the continued development of the standardised GSM-R (global system for mobile communication – railway) on the Iarnrod Eireann - Irish Rail and ÖBB networks respectively.
It will also support ongoing operations along established railways standards until the upgrade of the mobile communication system to FRMCS becomes available, Kontron said.
In Slovenia, the company will design, test, commission and install the global system for mobile communications-railway (GSM-R) along the Divaca – Koper line, which connects the cargo port of Koper with the Slovenian and wider European railway network. (ben)
