EUR 10 billion for Amazon in Germany

Amazon plans to invest EUR 10 billion in its German logistics network, bolstering three fulfilment centres in the country. This move will bring the company’s team to over 40,000 permanent positions in Germany by the end of this year.

Following its previous EUR 7.8 billion investment in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, Amazon is now backing its fulfilment hubs in North Rhine-Westphalia, Thuringia and Grossenkneten. The latter two have already commenced operations, while the first, located in Horn-Bad Meinberg, is set to be opened this summer.

After 25 years in Germany, the company is looking to enhance its local logistics and cloud infrastructure while also supporting the country’s growth. “Germany is at the heart of innovation in Europe,” says Stefan Hoechbauer, managing director for Germany and Europe at AWS. This investment has the potential to boost Germany’s GDP by over EUR 15 billion. (mk)
